It is developing a drop-in, robotic baggage handling system that enables continuous, consistent, fast baggage handling with reduced dependency on human labour, resulting in decreased wait times, and improved passenger experience. “Journey’s touchless system streamlines operations while improving reliability and profitability for the air transport industry,” Allen explains. “Our key objectives as the Emerging Technology Showcase Sponsor of the FTE World Innovation Summit are to be able to demonstrate our innovative robotic baggage handling platform prototype for the attendees and gain feedback on our system to make sure that our final product meets the needs of the industry.”

Journey Robotics’ Baggage Handler offers several key benefits that improve operational efficiency and passenger experience. “Our touchless baggage handling system streamlines the loading and unloading process, ensuring faster baggage movement and fewer delay-causing errors,” Allen shares. “The compact, drop-in design allows airports to modernise without having to upgrade the entire infrastructure.”
The company is currently testing its Baggage Handler platform in a real-world environment within Pittsburgh International Airport’s xBridge program. “Our system has improved Machine Learning capabilities and our innovative patent-pending end of arm tool that takes into account bag hygiene to ensure consistent and reliable BHS operations,” says Allen.
Journey Robotics is also growing its team with robotics, autonomy, and product management experts who will help the company quickly take its technology to market.
“Our team has gained a lot of knowledge from our interactions at FTE events with air transport and baggage handling subject matter experts,” Allen shares. “I have presented the company to FTE audiences as part of the Baggage Innovation Working Group. These interactions have been invaluable to the company and we are grateful to be a part of the FTE community.”
Looking ahead, Allen is eager to participate at the FTE World Innovation Summit, which is free to airlines and airports and will bring together over 400 air transport industry innovators for a three-day interdisciplinary series of conference sessions, interactive workshops, tours of the new terminal at PIT and across key innovation sites across Pittsburgh, and networking opportunities. “We look forward to meeting the attendees and suggest that they please stop by the sponsor engagement stations during networking hours each day of the Summit to speak with a member of our team.
