As part of its 2024 Summer Readiness Plan, Toronto Pearson successfully implemented the Waites condition monitoring system, a cutting-edge predictive maintenance technology designed to optimise operational efficiency and reduce downtime across critical airport systems.
In June, Toronto Pearson launched the Waites condition monitoring system on its baggage handling systems, a key area that directly impacts passenger experience and airport operations. This initial implementation has shown impressive results, enabling the identification and resolution of many potential issues before they could impact service. Through close coordination between the Waites reliability team and Toronto Pearson onsite maintenance staff, the team is able to get ahead of machine failures long in advance of operational impacts.
“The success of our initial implementation of the Waites condition monitoring system further unlocks the potential of predictive maintenance to elevate our operational standards and provide a smoother journey for everyone passing through Toronto Pearson,” advises Michael Quelhas, Associate Director Reliability, Terminal Infrastructure. “As we continue to invest in advanced technologies, we are setting a new standard in airport readiness and reliability.”
Building on this initial success, Toronto Pearson has expanded predictive maintenance coverage to include baggage carousels, further enhancing the reliability and performance of its inbound baggage operations. In the coming months, the airport intends to broaden the application of predictive maintenance to additional critical infrastructure to ensure a seamless experience for passengers and airport partners alike.
“We are honoured to partner with Toronto Pearson International Airport, a world-class facility known for its commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction,” said Rob Ratterman, CEO, Waites Sensor Technologies. “By integrating Waites’ predictive maintenance technology into their baggage systems, we are enhancing an already robust operation with our state-of-the-art monitoring capabilities. This collaboration not only underscores the airport’s proactive approach to reliability and efficiency but also demonstrates our shared dedication to improving passenger experiences through innovative solutions. Together, we are setting a new standard for seamless, reliable travel.”
The integration of the Waites condition monitoring system represents a significant step forward in Toronto Pearson’s commitment to operational excellence, as the airport leverages advanced technology to maintain a safe, efficient, and resilient airport environment. This implementation is expected to support ongoing improvements in maintenance practices, allowing Toronto Pearson to meet the growing demands of passengers and airline partners with confidence.
