Heathrow Airport has launched a trial to test two new ultra-light antibacterial security trays, designed by Italian company One.Tray.
The two types of tray contain different antibacterial agents proven to significantly reduce the level of bacteria and viruses on the tray surface.
“Security trays are a high-frequency touchpoint on the passenger journey. While our existing ultra-light trays are 90% more effective than standard plastic molded airport trays in reducing the build-up of bacteria, it is essential we continue to innovate and explore the best-possible solutions available to reduce any risk to both passengers and airport staff,” said Federico Kluzer, founder and MD of One.Tray.
The trial will run in Heathrow’s Terminal 2 for the next two months, with weekly adenosine triphosphate (ATP) testing to enable Heathrow to gauge the effectiveness of the One.Tray product.
ATP monitoring is a rapid testing method used to measure actively growing micro-organisms through the detection of adenosine triphosphate. It is most commonly used by the food and beverage industry to quickly assess the cleanliness of surfaces or liquid samples.
