The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) has started trials of its new screening lane at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.
This lane comes as part of the ‘CATSA Plus’ initiative, which combines technologies and past innovations to improve the screening process from both a security and passenger experience perspective. The new lane includes motorised rollers, a remote X-ray viewing room, an automatic bin return system, and improved divest and repack stations for passengers.
The authority has said CATSA Plus can be adapted depending on circumstances in the airport, such as passenger numbers or space available. The Montréal airport was selected to host the trial because its Checkpoint A has enough space to incorporate the full lane with all the main features included.
The trial will be used to gauge performance and passenger experience. CATSA will make any required changes before full deployment of a Plus checkpoint in Calgary International Airport next month.
