Miami International Airport this week became the latest airport in the US to offer CLEAR security lanes, which provide pre-registered travellers with an expedited airport security experience.
The CLEAR programme uses biometric technology to identify enrolled trusted travellers. Members simply have to provide their fingerprints and iris scans at a self-service kiosk and if approved they can then access a dedicated CLEAR lane, allowing them to skip the standard security queue.
Anyone aged 18 or over with a US passport or US issued Permanent Resident/Alien Registration Card plus an approved secondary ID can apply to join CLEAR, which has an annual membership fee of $179.
The opening of the new lanes at Miami International Airport follows last month’s unveiling of a CLEAR lane at Baltimore Washington International Airport. CLEAR lanes can also be found at San Francisco, San Jose, McCarran, Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, George Bush Intercontinental, William P. Hobby, Orlando and Westchester County airports.
