According to the latest passenger survey by consumer research company ‘Which?’, London Southend Airport is the best in the UK. The Essex airport achieved a customer satisfaction score of 84% and achieved a five-star ranking in five of the 10 categories assessed.
The categories included speed of check-in, airport security, passport control, information and navigation, airport design, airport environment, food outlets, shops, toilets and facilities.
Smaller airports also make up the remainder of the top-five, with Humberside, Robin Hood – Doncaster Sheffield, London City and Southampton airports filling places two to five respectively.
London Southend Airport Operations Director David Lister said: “This is wonderful news and testament to all the hard work that the team here at London Southend has put in. We think our unique promises to passengers – that they should wait no more than four minutes to go through security and that, on arrival with hand baggage, they are on the rail station platform within 15 minutes of leaving the aircraft with a fast and frequent service to the heart of London – is what has been a big part of our success over the last year and the factor which is driving more and more passengers to choose London’s newest airport.”
Since 2008, more than £100 million has been invested in London Southend Airport by the Stobart Group, with major infrastructure upgrades including a new terminal and a new train station. A £10 million terminal extension is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2013.
