Washington Dulles Airport launches real-time queue measurement
The queue measurement system makes use of video recognition analytics to constantly calculate the waiting times at security checkpoints.

Washington Dulles International Airport has become the first airport in the US to introduce an innovative video analytics system to automatically calculate queuing times at security checkpoints.

Developed by Blue Eye Video Company, the system generates and displays waiting times on the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority website, which can be viewed on desktop and mobile devices.

Chris Browne, VP and Dulles Airport Manager, said: “Real-time data puts the power in our customers’ hands. Dulles passengers can use this new service to eliminate the guesswork in selecting which checkpoint to use.”

The system uses video recognition analytics to constantly measure the number of people in line and the number of people completing the security screening process. From this data and algorithms tailored for Dulles, wait times for the airport’s security mezzanine checkpoints are calculated in real-time.
