Edinburgh Airport expands passenger flow capabilities to gain curb-to-flight insights and enhance CX

Edinburgh Airport is implementing Veovo’s curb-to-flight flow management. This will provide a comprehensive view of passenger movement, helping improve all aspects of the airport journey.

Edinbugh Airport is deepening its partnership with Veovo to further improve the passenger experience. Building on its existing queue management system, which tracks wait times at key points like security, the airport will now implement Veovo’s curb-to-flight flow management.

Curb-to-flight insight provides a comprehensive view of passenger movement throughout the airport. Analysing behaviour by flight and time of day allows every stage of the passenger journey to be optimised. For instance, understanding when passengers arrive at the airport allows optimal planning of check-in and bag drop resources to help reduce queue times. Insights into how passengers move through, and dwell in, shopping and restaurant outlets will support the development of the best mix and capacity of retail offerings to meet their customers’ needs.

Gate allocations can also be fine-tuned based on passenger flow patterns, reducing walking distances and wait times. These improvements not only streamline transfers but also help prevent bottlenecks in high-traffic areas. Combined with smarter call-to-gate practices, the airport can create a more satisfying experience for travellers.

“With full curb-to-flight tracking, we will unlock unparalleled insight into the trends of passenger show-up, airport journey and retail experience,” said Alastair Williamson, Head of Airport Systems and Data, Edinburgh Airport. “Understanding these behaviours by flight provides us with an amazing opportunity to measure and improve all aspects of the passenger journey. As we move into the next phase of airport expansion, we can optimise space and resources to meet demand and deliver a retail experience which provides passengers with the variety and quality they deserve. Deploying Curb-to-flight is an important step towards creating the most efficient airport operation.”

This initiative complements other Veovo tools deployed at Edinburgh, including its Airport Operational Database, Resource Management, and Revenue Management systems. Together, these solutions are advancing the airport toward Total Airport Management, where integrated passenger flow and flight operations deliver an efficient, responsive, and enjoyable travel experience.

“We are delighted to expand on our partnership with Edinburgh Airport to optimise performance further and create better passenger experiences throughout the terminal,” said James Williamson, CEO, Veovo. “Linking flight operations with full curb-to-flight insights is key to transforming operational performance.”
