UrbanV, the Italian vertiport network operator, and Cluster2, which manages 22 airports across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, are partnering to develop Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) in Saudi Arabia. They will cooperate to support and build the AAM ecosystem in Cluster2’s airport network, in preparation for commercial operations.
The two companies will conduct comprehensive feasibility studies to implement AAM solutions at airports managed by Cluster2 Airports, while ensuring compliance with the regulations of the General Authority of Civil Aviation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, safety standards and environmental sustainability goals.
The partnership also includes UrbanV transferring its expertise in AAM, in addition to providing training programmes and technical knowledge, and cooperating with relevant parties.
“At UrbanV, we aim to improve people’s lives by enabling a fast, efficient, safe, and clean alternative to existing transport solutions for people and goods over short distances, by air,” said Carlo Tursi, CEO, UrbanV. “We have the ambition to become a major global operator of vertiport networks and we will be global pioneers in establishing some of the first AAM routes worldwide. We are excited to partner with Cluster2, a major player in the airport management space, and we look forward to exploring together with them the great potential of introducing Advanced Air Mobility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
Furthermore, the companies will launch initial pilot programmes for the introduction of eVTOL services for targeted applications such as medical emergencies, VIP transport, and cargo logistics. These programmes will act as Proof of Concept initiatives to evaluate the operational integration of AAM in real-world conditions.
Both companies are committed with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its broader sustainability goals, including the use of zero-emission eVTOL vehicles and environmentally sustainable vertiport design.
“We are pleased to sign this partnership, as we seek in such partnerships to have a presence and leadership in finding solutions for AAM in addition to creating an integrated ecosystem for our various airports in the Kingdom, while emphasising the application of environmental sustainability in all our airports,” said Eng. Ali Masrahi, CEO, Cluster2 Airports. “It is worth noting that the Cluster2 Airports company seeks to achieve its strategic goals by increasing the number of passengers annually in addition to linking the three continents to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Asia, Europe, Africa) and accommodating the airports affiliated with the number of passengers and increasing the number of international airlines using airports within the Kingdom.”
