FTE APEX Asia Expo – the region’s largest free-to-attend passenger experience and business performance expo for the air transport industry – returned to the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore, on 19-20 November 2024. This year’s event – delivered with the support of Headline Partners Changi Airport Group, Onboard Hospitality, and Singapore Airlines – was our biggest and best ever, with 2,000+ registrations from 60+ countries.

The free to attend exhibition at FTE APEX Asia Expo provided a major showcase of progressive solutions, products and services from technology giants and the most innovative startups from across Asia and beyond. The 65+ exhibitors highlighted innovations created to help airlines and airports improve end-to-end customer experiences, reduce costs, increase revenues, and enhance sustainability and operational efficiency. Whether you are looking for products to help automate and streamline the airport experience or increase comfort and personalisation inflight, the expo hall was the place to find them.
The exhibition featured some of the most established players in the sector, including SITA, IDEMIA Public Security, TAV Technologies, Vanderlande, Gunnebo Entrance Control, Vodafone, and many more, plus a dedicated Startup Zone featuring some of the most progressive new suppliers on the market, including Baggage Media, Shabstec Limited and more.
The ‘Tech & Innovation Briefings’ on the exhibition floor also provided attendees with the opportunity to join guided tours and meet exhibitors with relevant products, services and concepts across four areas: Inflight Entertainment & Connectivity; Onboard Hospitality; Baggage Handling; and Airport Technology & Pre-Travel.
Inflight-focused showcase – IFEC, digital engagement, 5G, communications, aircraft seating and more
The exhibition featured an impressive line-up of inflight-focused suppliers, including Safran Passenger Innovations, West Entertainment, AirFi, Apios, FTS Technologies, Immfly, Inflight Dublin, Mirus Aircraft Seating, Moment | Airfree, PXCom, Spafax, and many more.
Moment | Airfree promised visitors “a game-changing experience” and showcased how its platform offers a pixel-perfect entertainment experience, boasting a diverse and extensive content, while providing a seamless path to increasing ancillary revenues through its e-commerce platform integrated with a crew app for efficient order management.
FTS Technologies highlighted its latest inflight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) and Smart Cabin products, including its Ka/Ku broadband airborne satellite terminal, wireless IFE system, flight data system, and smart surveillance system that are developed to meet stringent demands from airlines, aircraft manufacturers and partners.
Visitors to the PXCom booth experienced first-hand how the company is reshaping inflight entertainment with its SkyVerse Wireless IFE platform. PXCom demonstrated its latest innovations, including the first standalone inflight chatbot, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven personalisation for enhanced passenger engagement, and seamless integration with existing CRM and onboard retail solutions.
Future Travel Experience teamed up with Meta and MSM.digital to bring an exclusive demo to FTE APEX Asia Expo. In collaboration with Lufthansa and developer MSM.digital, Meta has launched a groundbreaking inflight entertainment initiative, introducing immersive experiences and spatial computing to air travel. This large-scale pilot, the first of its kind, is set to revolutionise the passenger experience in Lufthansa’s new Business Class Allegris by integrating Mixed Reality technology. FTE APEX Asia Expo attendees were able to experience Meta’s Mixed Reality headsets and explore apps designed specifically for Lufthansa’s Business Class Allegris passengers.
Onboard Hospitality Forum Asia – a showcase of inflight catering, wellbeing, design and innovation
The Onboard Hospitality Forum Asia once again took place as part of FTE APEX Asia Expo 2024. Driven by leading onboard services magazine, Onboard Hospitality, the forum combined targeted inflight hospitality, peer to peer networking and conference sessions with a chance to meet leading suppliers of catering, wellbeing, design and innovation. Held within a dedicated zone, the free-to-attend Forum was specifically designed to support buyers of inflight passenger comfort and catering.
A record number of leading inflight wellness and catering companies showcased their latest products and services, including Aviasoft, Do Food Co Ltd, En Route, Flightparts, Foodcase International, Foodfolk Australia, FORMIA, ITW Envopak, Linstol, Manna from Heaven Group, Procurall Solutions, RMT Global Partners, Traiteur de Paris, Xiamen AVIO PACK, Zibo Rainbow, and more.
During the two-day Onboard Hospitality Forum Asia, attendees also had the chance to hear inspiration from a number of leaders in the hospitality sector.

The popular ‘Tech & Innovation Briefings’ on the exhibition floor returned bigger and better this year. Attendees had the opportunity to join guided tours and meet exhibitors with relevant products, services and concepts across areas including Inflight Entertainment & Connectivity; Onboard Hospitality; Baggage Handling; and Airport Technology & Pre-Travel.
Attendees were also able to use the One-to-One Meeting system prior to and during the show to connect with companies and individuals and arrange meetings. The system again proved a great success.

The theme of FTE APEX Asia Expo 2024 was ‘Innovate to Grow’ and was reflected throughout the agendas on both the Premium Conference and Expo stages, which highlighted the transformative and collaborative approaches being taken for the benefit of the industry.

Themed ‘Identifying opportunities, overcoming challenges, and embracing innovation to support future growth across Asia and beyond’, the panel was moderated by Suranjana Tewari, Asia Business Reporter, BBC News, and featured Jayson Goh, Executive Vice President, Airport Management, Changi Airport Group; John Simeone, CEO, Jetstar Asia; Jeffrey Goh, Group CEO, Gulf Air Group; and Sumesh Patel, President, Asia Pacific, SITA. Topics covered included the current state of the Asia market, future growth expectations and opportunities, empowering workforce, customer experience, digital transformation and technology, sustainability, and more.
In a fascinating C-Suite Keynote, Candice Alabanza Iyog, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, Cebu Pacific, shared a behind the scenes perspective on the airline’s ambitious growth strategy, with a focus on innovation, customer experience, sustainability, and more.
Meanwhile, on the Expo Stage, Dr Joe Leader, CEO, APEX/IFSA, led a compelling CEO Keynote & Fireside Chat with Sabirin Hj Abd Hamid, Chief Executive Officer, Royal Brunei Airlines.
Premium Conference Stage – innovation for airlines and airports
The Premium Conference provided unique insights into how the industry will evolve over the short, medium and long-term, and how effective utilisation of technology, innovation, hospitality and collaboration can reimagine air travel for the better and support the significant growth that airlines, airports and their partners in the region will experience in the years to come.
Among the many highlights in the Premium Conference was the Airport Innovation Summit, which provided a compelling exploration of how airports and their partners are making pioneering use of technology to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. Moderated by Javed Malik, Managing Partner, Ink+ & Managing Director, Ink Arabia, and a Captain of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub, the session featured three fascinating presentations. Chua Ching Hock, General Manager, Seletar Airport, Changi Airport Group, discussed innovation in smaller airports. Soonil Hwang, Deputy Director, Fast Travel Team, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Jeong-ju An, Manager of Fast Travel Team, Incheon International Airport Corporation, shared how the Fast Travel program is successfully elevating the customer experience and optimising efficiency at Incheon Airport. Giovanni Gennaro, Head of Open Innovation, Aeroporti di Roma, highlighted how a unique innovation culture and mindset has helped to establish ADR as one of the innovation leaders in the global airport industry.
A key session on ‘Inflight Innovation’ focused on elevating the onboard experience through cutting-edge cabin, IFEC and service advancements. Moderator Dr Joe Leader, CEO, APEX/IFSA, led an interactive panel discussion exploring the latest developments and future opportunities around IFE, connectivity, cabin design, new technology integration, revenue generation, F&B ordering, passenger comfort, and more. The high-level panel featured Vivian Lo, GM Customer Experience and Design, Cathay Pacific Airways; Dominic Green, Director – Inflight Entertainment, United Airlines; and Reza Rasoulian, Senior Vice President, Hughes.
In a compelling address on the Premium Conference stage, Dr Joe Leader, CEO, APEX/IFSA, shared a Special Presentation titled ‘Innovate to Grow: The Future of Airline Passenger Experience 2035’. He highlighted how innovation is transforming every aspect of the passenger journey, powered by Artificial Intelligence, biometrics, and sustainable practices. Leader also emphasised how collaboration across airlines, airports and tech innovators is driving the evolution of travel. In his 2035 vision, Leader described the passenger experience as becoming intuitive, engaging and deeply personalised, aligning with the future of global connectivity.
Ryan Ghee, Chief Operating Officer, Future Travel Experience, moderated a session focused on ‘The airport terminal of the future – how will brand-new airports and terminal developments help to deliver significantly enhanced passenger and baggage experiences?’ The session opened with a virtual address by Yvonne Bilshausen, SVP | Global Head of Aviation Architecture + Engineering, AECOM. Nicholas Donovan, Head of Aviation Services, then discussed Melbourne Airport’s transformation, while Guðmundur Daði Rúnarsson, Chief Commercial and Airport Development Officer, Keflavik Airport, and Darin Juby, Head of Transformation, Future Travel Experience, also joined the high-level panel.
Day 2 on the Premium Conference stage began with the Airline Innovation Summit. Moderated by Javed Malik, Managing Partner Ink+ & Managing Director, Ink Arabia, and a Captain of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub, the session featured compelling insights from three high-level speakers. Babar Rahman, SVP Global Marketing & Corporate Communications, shared how Qatar Airways’ Sama 2.0 – the world’s first AI flight attendant – and the revolutionary QVerse have redefined the pre-travel experience. Koray Ergun, Airline Operations Solutions Director, Turkish Technology, highlighted how Turkish Airlines is enhancing efficiency with a bespoke AI-based turnaround management solution, plus an insight into its future digital vision. Kevin Kleist, Head of Emerging Trends, Southwest Airlines, discussed what other airlines, and their partners, can learn from Southwest’s successful approach to emerging trends & technology.
Another highlight was a fascinating session on how airlines, airports and their partners are combining technology, unique products and exceptional service to deliver world-class customer experiences. Moderated by Stuart Forster, Editor – Retail and Technology, Onboard Hospitality, the session featured three compelling presentations. Andrew Tan, Vice President Airport Development PMO (CEO’s office), shared how Air India is enhancing the customer and employee experience with creative digital developments. Oren Cohen Butansky, EVP & Chief Customer Experience Officer, EL AL Israel Airlines, focused on seamless innovation and how airlines and airports fuse technology, unique products, and superior service for unmatched customer experience. Jonathan Song, Chief Commercial Officer, discussed how Plaza Premium Group is redefining the airport hospitality experience through its global network, innovative concepts and technological integration.
The Premium Conference agenda concluded with an undoubted highlight – the FTE Digital Transformation Symposium, which focused on how airlines, airports and their partners are leveraging technology to redefine operational efficiency and prepare for the future. Moderated by Javed Malik, Managing Partner, Ink+ & Managing Director, Ink Arabia, and a Captain of the FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub, the session featured compelling insights from two high-level speakers. Gordon Chu, Head of Digital Innovation, shared a look inside Cathay Pacific’s digital innovation journey, from process to culture. Shatha AlHosain, IT Strategy & Control Director, Cluster2 Airports, then discussed ‘Digital Transformation Redefined: How Cluster2 Airports is transforming airport operations across 22 airports in Saudi Arabia’.
Expo Stage – free education for all
Attendees benefited from complimentary access to the Expo Stage, with two days of free education sessions focusing on airport and inflight innovation.
The Expo Stage agenda began with a key session focused on next-generation e-commerce, ancillary revenue and retail. A high-level panel discussed strategies for creating new revenues and enhancing the customer experience, with a focus on e-commerce and digital retailing today, and the biggest future opportunities. Moderated by Albert Jan Prevoo, Director Aviation Innovation, nlmtd, the panel featured Jie Wei Ow, Manager, Ancillary Products, Scoot; Ursula Silling, CEO, Branchspace – digital reinvented; Nick Ashton, Global Airline Lead, Protect Group; Paul-Eric Licari, Regional Head, Tech & Travel, Group Business Development, Grab; and Trevor Spinks, Commercial Advisor to CEO, flyadeal.
A highlight of the free to attend Expo Stage agenda was a session focused on tapping into the latest inflight entertainment & connectivity (IFEC) advancements to differentiate your brand and create memorable experiences. Moderator Daniel Welch, Co-founder & Senior Consultant, Valour Consultancy, set the scene with a presentation on the latest developments and trends that are reshaping the IFEC landscape, and what might be on the horizon. He then led an engaging panel discussion with a range of high-level speakers, including Kate K Groth, President, West Entertainment; Dominic Green, Director – Inflight Entertainment, United Airlines; Ben Asmar, Vice President, Products and Strategy, Safran Passenger Innovations; John Vidal, General Manager APAC, Immfly; and Dr Joe Leader, CEO, APEX/IFSA.

An Onboard Hospitality Forum Asia session focused on the key topic of ‘enhancing inflight service and F&B offerings while minimising waste and maximising sustainability’. Moderated by Stuart Forster, Editor – Retail and Technology, Onboard Hospitality, the session featured two presentations followed by an interactive panel discussion, with high-level speakers including Oren Cohen Butansky, EVP & Chief Customer Experience Officer, EL AL Israel Airlines, who addressed ‘Flying Green: Delivering exceptional in-flight service with minimal waste and maximum sustainability’; and Nick Wiley, Global Managing Director, En Route International, who explored ‘Minimising waste, maximising sustainability’.
Day 2 on the Expo Stage opened with the FTE Baggage Innovation Summit, which was an undoubted highlight of the agenda. Moderator Darin Juby, Head of Transformation, Future Travel Experience, set the scene with a presentation focused on opportunities and challenges in the baggage handling world, and the latest updates from the FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group Proof of Concepts. He then led a compelling panel discussion with high-level experts including Jason Odey, Director, Global Baggage Excellence, Air Canada; Christopher Stein, Director Digital Services, Siemens Logistics; and Amit Doshi, Head of Capacity Planning Logistics, Dubai Airports.
The FTE Innovation Showcase perfectly reflected the event theme of ‘Innovate to Grow’. Moderated by Ryan Ghee, Chief Operating Officer, Future Travel Experience, the session featured two high-level presentations. Sidne Yeo, Asia Head, Lufthansa Innovation Hub, shared a compelling presentation titled ‘From artificial intelligence to digital payments – how Lufthansa Innovation Hub is pioneering the future of travel for the Lufthansa Group’. Bima Boediman, Senior Expert, InJourney Aviation Services, then provided a fascinating insight into the Soekarno–Hatta International Airport transformation.
The free to attend Expo Stage agenda featured a fascinating Onboard Hospitality Forum Asia session on ‘Improving the inflight experience for passengers, and the latest onboard product innovations’. Moderated by Stuart Forster, Editor – Retail and Technology, Onboard Hospitality, three high-level speakers shared their compelling insights. Ju Li Ng, Divisional Vice President of Cabin Crew, Air India, discussed ‘Transforming inflight service delivery’. Yelena Obukhova, Vice President – Inflight Services, Air Astana, shared how ‘Flying is a journey within a journey: 5 senses of inflight experience’. Edwin Lim, Head of Commercial & Retail, dnata, highlighted ‘Customer experience in the age of digital cabins’.
The Expo Stage agenda concluded with a session focused on ‘Embracing and integrating technology to make Smart Ramp operations a reality at the airport’. The session featured two insightful presentations followed by an interactive panel discussion led by moderator Manuel van Lijf, Director Aviation Innovation, nlmtd. Tomoyuki Kikuchi, Manager, Ground Handling Planning, Airport Support, Operations Support Center, All Nippon Airways (ANA), shared insights into ANA’s smart ramp efforts, including advanced autonomous vehicle testing. Gus Naughton, Senior Software Engineer, Emerging Technologies, Alaska Airlines, then explained why ramp automation is at the heart of Alaska Airlines’ ground operations redesign.

FTE’s communities bring together the most innovative and progressive organisations to provide a unique platform for sharing, learning, cooperation and industry advancement. Ahead of FTE APEX Asia Expo 2024, Changi Airport Group hosted a joint meeting that brought together members of the FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group (BIWG) and FTE Digital, Innovation & Startup Hub to focus on the topics of robotics and automation, where huge advancements are being made right now to solve many real-world challenges in the aviation industry.
The meeting was led by Darin Juby, Head of Transformation, Future Travel Experience, and Kevin Kleist, Head of Emerging Trends, Southwest Airlines and Head of Innovation, Digitalisation & Startup Engagement, Future Travel Experience. It featured a fascinating presentation from Joe Chiu, Vice President, Digital & Data Management Systems, Changi Airport Group, on ‘Digital transformation initiatives to improve passenger and customer experience’.
A compelling panel followed on the theme of ‘Autonomy in an Airport Environment and What is Needed to Become Increasingly Prevalent’. The panellist line-up included Roscoe Gray, Technical Director, Wise Technical; Kim Abilgaard, Sales and Development, Powerstow; Shanti John, VP Sales Asia, IDEMIA; Mark Lakerveld, Executive Director, Global Markets, Vanderlande; David Keene, CEO, Aurrigo; Matt Senske, CEO and Founder, Efficient Technologies; Ranjiv Ramanathan, Transformation and Development, SATS; and Giovanni Gennaro, Head of Open Innovation, Aeroporti di Roma.
BIWG members also had the opportunity to tour Aurrigo’s autonomous baggage handling vehicles at Changi Airport. The Auto-DollyTug has demonstrated its ability to manoeuvre on the apron while interacting with traditional ground service equipment (GSE).

FTE APEX Asia Expo concluded with the inaugural FTE APAC Innovate Awards. These landmark awards are truly unique and are the industry’s definitive innovation platform. Airlines and airports competed head-to-head with their peers, shining a light on their latest innovation efforts. Each of the shortlisted entrants pitched in an effort to impress our judges – Linda Schucroft, Vice President Innovation & Guest Experience, King Salman International Airport; Raza Ali, Vice President – Innovation, International Airlines Group (IAG); and Manuel van Lijf, Director Aviation Innovation, nlmtd – and our audience, whose all-important votes decided who won. Attendees enjoyed food and drinks with live music, and had the opportunity to network with peers in both indoor and al-fresco settings at Hub & Spoke. They also experienced fun activities and bicycle rides to explore the Jurassic Arc and Changi Jurassic Mile. It was an ideal opportunity to see how Changi Airport goes beyond traditional terminal spaces to delight passengers.
FTE APEX Asia Expo Reception & Awards After Party
The FTE APAC Pioneer Awards 2024 ceremony was followed by the FTE APEX Asia Expo Reception & Awards After Party, sponsored by Intel Corporation and AerVision Technologies. Attendees came together at the stunning Dallas Café and Bar, located at the foot of the iconic Marina Bay Sands, for an unforgettable gathering. With breathtaking views of Singapore’s waterfront, delicious drinks, and meaningful conversations, it was the perfect way to unwind after a day filled with conference sessions and exhibitor showcases. The event culminated with a viewing of the spectacular Spectra outdoor light and water show.
Changi Airport Terminal 2 tour
FTE APEX Asia Expo 2024 Headline Partner Changi Airport Group facilitated guided tours of the renovated Terminal 2. The terminal has fully reopened, following a three-and-a-half-year transformation journey to increase handling capacity, enhance facilities and bring in more efficient systems. The briefing featured landside innovations that have been implemented to further enhance the customer experience and operational efficiency, including the self-check and bag drop facilities and the cleaning robots programme. An undoubted highlight of the tour was the 14m-tall digital display in the departure hall, dubbed ‘The Wonderfall’.
