Lufthansa and Meta launch world’s first XR Inflight Experience in Business Class Suites – exclusive preview at FTE Global

Dr. Bjoern Becker, Head of Future Intercontinental Experience Program, Lufthansa: “Our goal is to enhance the passenger experience and continuously expand our onboard offerings. With Mixed Reality, we can now offer experiences that were previously impossible and tailor them to the needs of our passengers. The initial feedback from the test and live flights has been very encouraging.”

Lufthansa has announced the official launch of its Extended Reality (XR) Inflight Experience, becoming the first airline worldwide to offer virtual and augmented reality entertainment options for passengers in its Allegris Business Class Suites.

The rollout is initially available on select routes to San Francisco (SFO) and Shanghai (PVG), and is set to expand to all Allegris destinations soon. Developed in collaboration with Meta and MSM.digital, this new experience allows Business Class passengers to engage with a variety of XR content, including the first-ever Extended Reality Travel Podcast, produced in partnership with ReisenReisen, and exclusive mobility content from Cupra. The aim is to provide a unique inflight experience that leverages cutting-edge technology to enhance comfort and engagement for Lufthansa’s premium passengers.

“Our goal is to enhance the passenger experience and continuously expand our onboard offerings,” commented Dr. Bjoern Becker, Head of Future Intercontinental Experience Program, Lufthansa. “With Mixed Reality, we can now offer experiences that were previously impossible and tailor them to the needs of our passengers. The initial feedback from the test and live flights has been very encouraging.”

Meta is showcasing this technology at the FTE Global event in Los Angeles on 28-30 October, marking a world-first opportunity for the public to try the new Mixed Reality headsets. This exclusive demo is part of a large-scale pilot, offering attendees a taste of the immersive experiences typically available only in the air.

Lufthansa’s new XR Inflight Experience represents a significant step forward in inflight entertainment, setting a new standard in the aviation industry as airlines increasingly look to differentiate their premium cabin offerings.
