Lufthansa has partnered with German supermarket chain REWE to trial an in-flight grocery shopping service using the FlyNet connectivity portal.
The three-month pilot was launched on 1 October and is available on long-haul routes departing from Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf for the first six weeks. For the following six weeks, passengers will be able make use of the service on long-haul flights arriving at the same three airports.
Passengers can connect to the onboard Wi-Fi, select the REWE service, select and purchase their groceries, and choose a convenient time for their order to be delivered to their home address.
A release from Lufthansa explained that the partnership with REWE is part of a broader digitisation strategy.
“The airline is increasingly entering the market with pilot projects in order to test what customers want and develop products together with them,” the carrier states.
Uptake and customer reaction will be evaluated at the end of the three-month pilot.
